Activities of IAIE
Activities of the International Association for Intercultural Education
From letter to Members and Friends of the IAIE
…As we approach the end of 2010 we would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the IAIE in the past year and to share some of the up and coming events we have planned for 2011 and 2012.
…We have had a busy year. Our journal «Intercultural Education» published on a wide range of issues in 2010 including special issues on «Teaching the Holocaust in Diverse Classrooms», «Perspectives in Multicultural Education in the Nordic Countries», «Cooperative Learning and Intercultural Education in Multicultural Societies» and «The Scope of Diversity from the perspective of southern European intercultural policies».
We also collaborated on the INTER Network Malta conference which focused on Linking theory and practice towards equity and social justice. This proved to be a particularly lively event and we plan to publish some of the key presentations in the 2011 journal editions.
…This has brought an increased IAIE focus on indigenous education and post colonialism. In fact, the Veracruz team is now busy planning the next IAIE conference to take place in the harbour city of Veracruz on the Gulf of Mexico in February 2012 which will include a strand on these issues. They also plan to organise some of the pre conference activities at the Intercultural University which is located in indigenous communities around Veracruz. Further details of this conference are available from firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Information will be available on our website early in the New Year.
2011 is also unfolding as another busy year. We will be co organising a conference at Södertörn University, Stockholm, Sweden on the 14th-16th April 2011 «Intercultural versus Critical Education? Contrast or Concordance?» Peter McLaren and Jagdish Gundara, among others, will be the keynote speakers. We look forward to some interesting and lively perspectives on what might be described as a long overdue debate. For information and registration: firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the website at http://www.sh.se/pedagogik.
Furthermore, IAIE will also be present at the International Symposium on Education and Interethnic Relations (IEIR 2011), to be held at Udmurt State University in Russia in May 2011. Cf. the conference site. http://ieir2011.conf.udsu.ru.
As you can see, the association continues to be increasingly involved in intercultural education around the world, organising seminars, workshops and collaborating with other organisations that have similar aims to ours. Your continuing support however is crucial to maintaining this position. We appreciated your partnership in the past, and would like to ask you to renew your support for our efforts to be a global force for intercultural education in 2011.
In the meantime, we send our warmest regards to all of you as we look forward to a productive and busy as ever New Year.
With best wishes
Gunther, the board and all of us here in Veracruz
